While various YAML parsers for Fortran exist, our yaml_parser.F stands out with its straightforward design and powerful capabilities. The parser adopts a hybrid approach combining standard and object-oriented programming principles without relying on complex constructs like recursion or polymorphism.

Although the ROMS parser reads YAML files twice for simplicity, it ensures effective data handling. The initial read determines indentation policies and collection vector lengths, while the second read processes the data efficiently.

YAML File Structure

The parser supports unlimited nested structures and allows both single and multiline comments initiated with a hash #. It maintains flexibility in schema indentation, although two-space indentation is often recommended by schema validators. Anchors and aliases are also supported, enhancing the parser's capabilities.
